The “tingly feeling” haunts us all. It’s the one where you’re in love and your heart skips a beat. You know you have to leave but you just can’t take them out of your sight. That is exactly what All My Loving is about. Written by Paul McCartney in 1963, it left a big mark on the history of The Beatles. I chose these lyrics because I can connect a lot of things to this song, specifically society, The Beatles, and the novel Small Steps, and I absolutely love The Beatles.

Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you,

Tomorrow I’ll miss you.

All My Loving is written by Paul McCartney. It was one of the few songs where he wrote the lyrics before the music. It was originally considered a Beatles poem. Paul McCartney originally saw it as a country song, hence George Harrison’s guitar solo. The music was written backstage on a piano during The Beatles’ Roy Orbison tour. All My Loving drew a lot of critical attention. It was also the band’s opening number on their US debut performance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964. It reminds me of when me or one of my family members is going on a trip. I'm going to miss them for a while, and it'll seem like they're gone for forever, even if its only for a day. That is how it connects to The Beatles.

John Lennon…

All My Loving was playing on the sound system at Roosevelt Hospital when John Lennon was pronounced dead after being assassinated by Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980. This is how it connects to society. We sure miss Lennon, and as Paul says in All My Loving, he probably misses us to. Paul had a lot going on in his life. With his bad relationship with his son Julian, and a divorce with his wife, Paul wrote All My Loving in a way to show how much he loves his wife and kids. This part of the lyrics reminds me so much of my cousin who died on his 21st birthday. I never got to say goodbye.

Kaira DeLeon, Janice Joplin, Bob Dylan, and other great singers of the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, all have something in common. They share or shared love with a person very important to them.

And hope that my dreams will come true.
And then while I’m away,
I’ll write home everyday,
And I’ll send all my loving to you.

In the novel Small Steps by Louis Sachar, Kaira DeLeon, a famous pop singer, and Theodore Johnson, a juvenile delinquent, are in love. With love happening, singing happening and letters as the only source of communication. This part of the lyrics reminds me of my brother writing to his girlfriend Irene when he goes on trips. He misses her and my family a lot. He will call her and give her a "kiss" from a far, even though he is just pretending. Or like when one of my friends misses their family they will hug a stuffed animal or a picture. This novel relates to All My Loving a lot.

The Beatles are an amazing band that have the ability to create spectacular peices, and Ringo and Paul still do. John and George would be blazing through lyrics, notes, and instruments if only they were still alive. The Beatles are one of the most famous bands in the world, and are a big influence for a lot of young musicians.

The Biography of The Beatles

Classic rock band The Beatles have been composing and performing since 1960. All of them born in Liverpool, England, they started out performing throughout Britain. It started out with John Lennon's band The Quarry Men. Paul McCartney met Lennon at the garden at St. Peters Church on July 6, 1957, and decided to add him to his band as bassist. On February 6, 1958, the boys met George Harrison at a concert he had been invited to at Wilson Hall in Garston, Liverpool, and convinced him to join there band as lead guitarist. With John Lennon as guitarist, George Harrison as lead guitarist, Paul McCartney as bassist, and Pete Best as drummer, they could now start their career. But later on in 1959, The Quarry Men met Ringo Starr. Ringo replaced Pete Best as drummer, and started The Beatles classic rock career.

The Beatles were breezing through their career with an awesome start. They started singing songs with a deeper meaning and had a lot of troubles in their life, they thought the change in music had put all their troubles away. Until they found out that George Harrison had been diagnosed cancer, they immediately started to worry. George Harrison died seven years ago. December 1, 2001 with much grief for everybody. On December 8, 1980, John Lennon was on his porch playing a game, when Mark David Chapman, a man on drugs, blindly assassinated him. That was after they broke up though. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are still doing fine, and they still share a love for music. Ringo recently won an award at the 2007 grammys.
